Therapy Process, Risks and Benefits

We provide a variety of testing and evaluation services for adults age 16 and over. We do not have tools for younger adolescents or children.

Insurance may not cover psychological testing, but some do. We will attempt to help with insurance billing for these services. However, you may have higher out of pocket costs compared to traditional counseling services.

A standard mental health or court-ordered evaluation, involving a general clinical evaluation, substance abuse, and personality testing, costs $595 and takes about 2-3 hours to complete. The written report takes another 1-2 hours. It typically takes 5-7 business days to complete.

ADHD and learning disability evaluations cost between $595 and $795 depending on complexity of the case, taking about 3-6 hours to complete. The written report takes another 2-4 hours. It typically takes 5-7 business days to complete.

Neuropsychological evaluations often take 5-7 hours not including scoring, analysis, and report development. The cost and amount of time is unique to each person, and an estimate can be developed after the initial evaluation and screening.
Do you work with children?

Yes. We have designed a brief evaluation process that gathers needed behavioral medicine and personality data designed to assess risks and outcome factors affecting people planning surgery or other medical procedures. We offer opinions regarding the candidates strengths and weaknesses and recommendations to avoid delayed recovery or functional overlay problems.

Psychological Evaluation & Testing
Psychological assessment and treatment is hard to describe in general statements. It can have benefits and risks. It varies depending upon your unique history, characteristics and skills, needs and problems, therapeutic relationship, and goals.

Risks are often minimal and may involve discussing unpleasant aspects of your life, experiences, emotions, and difficult topics. Many people report benefits that lead to better relationships, solutions to specific problems, reduction in distress, and other changes. However, there are no guarantees of what you will experience or the outcomes of this process.

To understand your goals and needs, the first few sessions will involve collecting and evaluating historical information, assessing your current situation, and defining future objectives and desired outcomes. Insurance pays for sessions lasting about 40-45 minutes. If this is insufficient, other fee arrangements can be made.

By the end of the first or second session, I will be able to offer some initial impressions of what our work may include, a list of possible treatment goals and options, a treatment plan, and other recommendations (e.g., medical evaluation, psychological testing). The total number of sessions depends on physical, medical, and psychological conditions, and client goals/needs. A mutually agreed upon treatment plan will guide the therapy process. Regular reviews of goals and progress will be conducted.

Therapy is a collaborative effort toward behavioral change and involves significant amounts of time, energy, and effort. Our goal is to empower you to solve your own problems and learn new skills, encourage self-discovery, personal growth and development, and lifestyle wellness. We expect a commitment to personal change, positive actions, and working toward goals.

Finally, in terms of approach and methods, I employ many different techniques to help you address the problems or issues that prompted you to seek professional services. I attempt to take my professional knowledge, skills and experience and tailor them to fit your specific needs and situation based on empirically validated best practices in the field. I urge clients to seek positive change in their lives based on personal choice and responsibility. I also help them learn skills related to recognizing and/or modifying any problematic behavior patterns. The process takes time. Rarely are their shortcuts. But with diligence and persistence, many people achieve their goals and move their life toward their valued direction and choice.

Yes. The process involves gathering detailed clinical background and history, and performing a number of psychological tests designed to measure sustained and selective attention, memory, aptitude and achievement levels, and various neuropsychological functions such as working memory, verbal and visual memory, visual-spatial and visual-motor skills, and other factors.

Note:

Insurance does not pay for testing materials as part of standard reimbursement. A fee of $45 per case will be assessed to cover the costs of test tools, protocols, forms, and other paper and online resources.
